Hi Sedeer,

Thanks for linking to Adrienne LaFrance's article, and reminding us that she was his inspiration. I just remembered Ed's article because I know him better than I know Adrienne (ie, slightly, vs not at all ;) ). So it's not a deliberate slight, but a function of the shape of my acquaintanceship network.

Hi all,

This is an important topic, and it's great that we're discussing it more. But it's unfortunate to see Ed Yong consistently credited for starting this discussion when, as he states in last year's article, he was inspired by and repeating the work of his female colleague, Adrienne LaFrance. (He even links to her piece, which was published two years before his: https://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2016/02/gender-diversity-journalism/463023/). There's a distressing irony in the fact that it took a male voice to make us notice a female's work on this subject. I was guilty of this myself until Maryn McKenna pointed it out.

I think it would be good for us to start citing Adrienne LaFrance and crediting her with launching the discussion.

Best,
Sedeer
