In 2019, Gamma Festival launches a new project GAMMA_LAB AI dedicated to artificial intelligence and sound.

In May 2019, GAMMA_LAB AI will be launched as an international laboratory for musicians, musicologists, media artists, programmers and researchers in the field of machine learning and artificial intelligence. Recruitment of laboratory participants will be carried out on the basis of a preliminary selection based on the evaluation of the portfolio and motivation letters. Open call starts on March 18th and will last until April 8th. On April 9, 2019 will be announced the results of the selection (not more than 9 finalists).

Participants of GAMMA_LAB AI will study three musical genres - baroque, jazz and techno - comparing traditions, modern state and future of three genres, as well as explore thematic
international archives. The main task of the laboratory is to create new works or reconstruct lost ones using AI / ML technologies with the participation of experts in the field of machine learning and artificial intelligence. The laboratory will last 12 days - from 11 to 22 May 2019 in the space of the Masters School in St. Petersburg - and will be complemented by public events. On May 12, 2019, there will be public lecture by Peter Kirn, and on May 19, 2019, lecture by Helena Nikonole and Konstantin Yakovlev.

The GAMMA_LAB AI finale will be held at the GAMMA festival in St. Petersburg in July 2019: the whole AI-stage will be presented at the main musical event of the festival, where
GAMMA_LAB AI results will be presented in the form of audiovisual performances, live performances and improvisations.
