University of Oxford: New Courses in Teaching Evidence-Based Health Care.
The new Teaching Evidence-Based Healthcare Programme at the University of Oxford is launching two accredited short courses designed to foster and develop future leaders in teaching evidence-based healthcare.

Developing Practice in Medical Education: 3rd February – 7th February 2020

This course aims to support students in developing their practice as teachers through critical reflection on the ways in which evidence, theory, values and contexts interact. The course encourages students to explore how and why their own teaching practice and understanding of learning and teaching has evolved over time and present plans for further professional development as an educator informed by an understanding of how professional expertise is acquired.

Course Design, Assessment and Evaluation: 11th May – 15th May 2020

This course provides an overview of the principles of curriculum development in medical education and the critical issues in course design and assessment, with a focus on implementation at the course/module level, the coherent planning of learning activities, and evaluation of teaching and learning. Through a mixture of lectures, individual and group activities, students will learn to summarise the steps taken in the process of course design, discuss the options available at each stage, and apply their learning to the design of a new module or course.

Both courses are part of the Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching Evidence-Based Health Care, a new part-time programme commencing September 2019.

Delivered by current leaders in research-led teaching and experts in medical education, this programme will explore different teaching styles, identify development needs and help plan effective curriculum.
