Subject: [London/KSSLKS] Free library visit - Joint Library of Ophthalmology

The London, Kent, Surrey & Sussex Staff Development Group have organised the next free CPD library visit. More information can be found below. These visits are a great opportunity to develop your knowledge about librarianship. For those working on CILIP Chartership or similar, the visit will help you to explore your wider library, information and knowledge sector context.

The Joint Library of Ophthalmology, 11-43 Bath Street, London, EC1V 9EL. Wednesday 27th February, 2.30pm - 4.30pm. 8 places available.

The Joint Library of Ophthalmology, is a shared resource between UCL and Moorfields Eye Hospital and is the foremost ophthalmic library in Europe.  Moorfields is the oldest eye hospital in the world.

The Library was created from the collections of the Central London Ophthalmic and the Royal London Ophthalmic Hospitals (Moorfields) in 1948, when the first librarian was appointed, and date from 1585.

The collections are of national and international importance and include over 2,000 original paintings of the eye and fundus (back of the eye) dating from the 1840s – 1980s and are beautiful. Come and see a selection of originals, which have been digitised and are available from UCL Digital Collections

Nearest Tube: Old Street (Northern Line, Bank Branch).  Take the exit in front of the ticket barriers. Turn left up the ramp, walk past Argos and the Co-Op and turn right into Bath Street. The Institute is the building with the Green windows.
