The
Joint Library of Ophthalmology, is a shared resource between UCL and Moorfields Eye Hospital and is the foremost ophthalmic library in Europe. Moorfields is the oldest eye hospital in the world.
The Library was created from the collections of the Central London Ophthalmic and the Royal London Ophthalmic Hospitals (Moorfields) in 1948, when the first librarian was appointed, and
date from 1585.
The collections are of national and international importance and include over 2,000 original paintings of the eye and fundus (back of the eye) dating from the 1840s – 1980s and are beautiful.
Come and see a selection of originals, which have been digitised and are available from
UCL Digital Collections.
