A new book will be published later this year on precisely this topic: Beisbart, Claus, and Nicole J. Saam (eds.), Computer Simulation Validation. Fundamental Concepts, Methodological Frameworks, Philosophical Perspectives Cham: Springer International Publishing.

I have a chapter in this book.

Ernesto Carrella posted a tutorial - http://carrknight.github.io/abm/2018/07/13/indirect-inference-tutorial.html - that may be of interest as well.

Hi all,

I am wondering if anyone is aware of a review or discussion about the quantitative methods used to calibrate/parameterise/optimise* agent-based models? E.g. discussing methods like genetic algorithms, regression, simulated annealing, etc., etc. with a view to recommending those that are the most suitable for different kinds of ABMs.

To be honest I’m surprised not to have found anything, the need to estimate ‘optimal’ parameter values seems fairly common.

Thanks in advance,
Nick

* I think that ‘calibrate', ‘parameterise’ and ‘optimise’ mean largely the same thing (or at least the same methods would be used).
