Hello, I work as the Librarian in a health care organisation which has nursing home residents, hospice and day care clients. The library was set up for healthcare staff and students on placements to primarily support education and research needs of the service. However, it seems apt that the Library could also broaden its remit and consider how reading benefits everyone including older people. I am hoping to set up a Reading / writing group with day care clients (older person). I have support from the day care manager so it will really depend on who turns up on the day for the session. I was considering having some short poems / short stories to read and discuss or maybe listen to a short story on CD and depending on what people want - maybe try some writing. I am wondering if any other healthcare libraries are doing or have tried anything similar. If you have any suggestions/ideas or maybe a guide on how to set one up, I'd appreciate hearing more about them. I know every group will be different so I expect it will be trial and error but any guidance from similar projects would be great.
