Through a heterogeneous collection of painting and sculpture by fifty artists, the exhibition will pay tribute to the extraordinary cultural production of women in Britain during a period of great change. The exhibition highlights the creative achievements of better-known figures such as Evelyn Dunbar, Barbara Jones, Laura Knight, Winifred Knights, Eileen Agar and Jessica Dismorr. It will also shine a light on exceptional lesser-known artists, including Gladys Hynes, Mary Adshead, Clara Klinghoffer and Tirzah (Garwood) Ravilious, thereby Including portraits and self-portraits, landscapes and cityscapes, industrial scenes and images of war, the exhibition will consider the ways in which 'feminine' virtues and values were shifting and contested in 20th century visual culture. By addressing the long-undervalued contributions of women to the art of 20-century Britain, '50/50' will pay tribute to artists who not only created remarkable works but also generated a momentum towards a more egalitarian art world. staff will provide a guided tour of the exhibition after which there will be time for browsing , questions and viewing the ambulatory area Meeting point: the curator meet you at the mercers hall Date: 11th February 2-3.15 pm approx Visit is free to ALISS members £5 to non-members To sign up contact Heather Dawson ALISS Secretary [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> LSE Library 10 Portugal Street WC2A 2HD ######################################################################## To unsubscribe from the LIS-LINK list, click the following link: https://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/cgi-bin/webadmin?SUBED1=LIS-LINK&A=1
