Thursday 10 January 2019: 17.30: Round table discussion of the career of Margarethe von Trotta, a key but often overlooked contributor to the New German Cinema of the 1970s and 80s, who has gone on to become one of Europe’s most distinguished and critically acclaimed directors, often creating work that focuses on extraordinary women.

Panellists include: Cathy Gelbin, Professor of Film and German Studies, University of Manchester; Erica Carter, Professor of German and Film at King’s College London; Maggie Hoffgen MA, freelance film lecturer and programmer, Manchester. Chaired by Jackie Stacey, Professor of Media and Cultural Studies, University of Manchester.

Followed by a screening of Das zweite Erwachen der Christa Klages (The Second Awakening of Christa Klages. Von Trotta, 1978)
