Hello Duareen, Thank you for your reply. There were about 50 attendees from a range of disciplines. Mainly medical, life sciences, veterinary studies but also other disciplines including arts who gave us some very interesting views and ideas. DOI's are used in various ways with various controls so it will be interesting to see how this requirement develops. We are just at the early stages of our current foray into research notebook requirements so hopefully we will investigate the ideas suggested more thoroughly over coming months. Would you please give us an idea of the number of people who attended and disciplines so we can put the results in perspective. Also, I noticed a request for DOIs. We use LabArchives here at the Univ of Utah and as the administrator I turned off DOI use. This is because whenever I teach a workshop on data management/Labarchives I find no one in the room knows what they are. Since DOIs are a bit of technology plus standards, and LabArchives provides no information (and they do provide other means for sharing) I cannot see a reason for allowing the creation of meaningless persistant identifiers. Maybe in another 10 years.
