Imperial College London Faculty of Natural Sciences South Kensington Campus Research Associate in Ultrafast Spectroscopy of Photosynthesis Salary scale: £37,904 - £45,547 per annum Application Closing date: 1th February 2019 (Midnight GMT) Applications are invited for a Research Associate position in Ultrafast Spectroscopy of Photosynthesis in the group of Jasper van Thor at Imperial College London. The successful applicant will join the Molecular Biophysics group at Imperial College London to perform ultrafast laser spectroscopy experiments of photosynthesis using multi-pulse approaches. The ultrafast spectroscopy laboratory offers advanced capabilities for femtosecond time resolved two-dimensional electronic spectroscopy, transient absorption spectroscopy and femtosecond time resolved mid-infrared spectroscopy. The focus of the work will be to configure and execute multi-pulse experiments in the electronic and infrared spectral regions. In addition, international collaboration with a theoretical physics group will focus on the single-pigment level analysis of exciton dynamics in photosynthetic reaction centers and smaller models. You will be involved in all experimental aspects of the project and will be responsible for configuring, executing and analysing femtosecond laser spectroscopy experiments. You have: A PhD (or equivalent) in Physics, Chemistry or Materials Science. Experience of ultrafast laser spectroscopy Experience non-linear optics Experience with detector systems and electronics Experience of data acquisition and analysis Experience with LabView, Matlab, python The position is full time and is available for up to 36 months. The post will be based at the South Kensington Campus, associated with the ultrafast spectroscopy laboratory (www.imperial.ac.uk/people/j.vanthor). *Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range £33,380- £35,061 per annum.
