Subscribers to this list may well be interested in the upcoming Data Matters - using data to improve the student experience - organised by QAA, Jisc and HESA and taking place on 16 January 2019 in London.

 

This is a not to be missed event, aimed at showcasing how data can be used to improve the student experience. The day will be packed with keynotes, panel and workshops. Sessions are aimed to show how to deliver impact through data and include, bringing data and words together (QAA Scotland’s current enhancement theme), data informed approaches to improve students’ wellbeing, using data from student learning analytics to gain insights around curriculum design and delivery, and many others.

 

We will also be hearing from Mr David Boyle, Customer Insight Director for Harrods.  David has extensive experience in customer insight and analytics at the BBC, Harper Collins, EMI, Dixons and Tesco and will be a thought-provoking speaker, on his experiences and perspective on using data to improve customer experiences, a really useful example from another sector.  In his keynote David will be drawing on his experiences in using analytics to drive ‘customer’ experience in presidential election campaigns, the music industry and in luxury retail to offer lessons for improving the student experience.

 

The event will bring data practitioners, quality professionals and digital specialists together to learn from peers via workshops and practical sessions including: 

 

        The value of data capability improvements 

        Weaving numbers and narrative to create a pattern of student success 

        Data informed enhancement of student well-being 

        The intelligent campus 

        Latest research: implications and applications (social media pilot update)

 

The previous Data Matters conference in November 2017 was very well-attended and successful, particularly in the way it brought colleagues from different professional services, like Quality and Planning, together. They learnt that they have data and the student experience in common. We’re sure the 2019 conference will be an equally thought-provoking event.
