The Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Helsinki invites applications for the position of a doctoral student for a fixed term of 4 years to contribute to the research project Law, Governance and Space: Questioning the Foundations of the Republican Tradition (SpaceLaw, www.spacelaw.fi<http://www.spacelaw.fi>). The deadline for applications is 3 December 2018.

The SpaceLaw research project is located at the Centre for European Studies of the University of Helsinki. It is funded by an ERC Consolidator Grant and led by Dr. Kaius Tuori.

Research plans concerning the intellectual tradition of republicanism, on the relationship between the legal and administrative framework as well as comparative projects on public sphere and public spaces are especially welcome. The doctoral student may have a background in law, humanities and/or social sciences. Students with different specializations in i.a classics, intellectual history, ancient history and Roman law are encouraged to apply.
