Call for Papers: Racialisation, Racism and Later Life, 16th IMISCOE Conference, Malmö, Sweden: June 26-28 2019. https://www.imiscoe.org/ (With apologies for cross-posting) Academic research at the intersection of ageing, migration and ethnicity has expanded significantly in the last 15 years, and this body of work has yielded numerous productive insights. Yet largely absent from this literature (to our knowledge) are the issues of racialisation and racism. New avenues of enquiry have been opened up by approaches based on social justice (Fraser 2004, Westwood 2018), but what of its opposite, racialisation and racism? How are older migrants and ethnic minority populations in later life affected by experiences of racialisation and racism? What are the long-term consequences of these experiences? For the 16th IMISCOE Conference in Malmö, Sweden, we propose to bring together social scientists at any career stage who are interested in exploring these questions. Papers are therefore invited which approach racialisation, racism and later life from any relevant thematic perspective, including but certainly not limited to: • Everyday life; • Economic aspects, employment discrimination, pensions; • Mental health; • Racism in health and social care settings; • Inter-generational aspects; • Civic society Abstracts of no more than 250 words should be submitted by Wednesday 28th November to the panel convenors [log in to unmask] and [log in to unmask] Please send to both of them to expedite the process.
