Hi Anton

Was the bone you dated black charred bone or was it white calcined bone.

Subject:
[ZOOARCH] dating cremated animal remains

Dear all,

when radiocarbon dating the cremation remains from an early medieval cemetery from Belgium, we observed a recurrent anomaly. The human (cremated) bones appear to be systematically older (around a century) than the cremated pig bones from the same grave (which represent food gifts). We are now looking for other case studies where, from cremation graves (or other incinerated contexts), both human and animal bones were radiocarbon dated, resulting in anomalies or not. All references are welcome!

many thanks beforehand,

Anton
