Shell Shock: Centuries of Wedgwood's Shell Fancying Lecture Oct 25

Adele Ierubino Barnett, past WSB President and founder of the Wedgwood Society of Washington DC, will address a special first joint meeting of the WSB and the Ceramics Study Club on Thursday, Oct 25, 2018 at 12:30 p.m. at the King's Chapel Parish House (NOT the Church).  The Parish House is located at  64 Beacon St. in Boston (near the corner of Beacon and Charles Streets). Adele began collecting Wedgwood in 1969 when she was given a blue jasper zodiac tray as a present.  Before downsizing in 2017 when she and her husband Alan moved from Virginia to Maine, her collection had grown to over 5,000 pieces. Today we are pleased to have Adele back with us as part of the WSB.

Adele's fascinating topic is "Shell Shock: Centuries of Wedgwood's Shell Fancying."  Josiah Wedgwood I was an amateur conchologist and his collection of shells inspired the designs he created in clay which have been consistently reproduced by the factory to the current day.  Adele's inspiration for the talk was her husband's collection of Wedgwood shell-shaped objects amassed as a result of his passion for both conchology at an early age and later, the Wedgwood art form. Adele will use Wedgwood examples and slides to illustrate the vast range of these themed objects produced over the Wedgwood firm's 250+ year history and explain why such decorative and table wares are always in vogue. Attendees are encouraged to bring along related Wedgwood examples.
