The Department of Geography at the University of Alabama is hiring for the tenure-track position of Assistant Professor in Political Ecology in the area of international illicit supply networks. The successful candidate’s research and teaching area of expertise will be in political ecology, or a closely related discipline, concerning one or more aspects of illicit supply networks in relation to human-environment interactions, coupled with substantial expertise in geospatial analysis. Topical specializations may include: geographic information science, value chain analysis, policy impact assessment, social or trade network analysis, financial transaction analytics, economic geography, land and/or supply chain governance, or political corruption. This new position will support the expansion of a collaborative research cluster with the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice and other campus partners to study international illicit supply networks. Please note that one does not need to currently be studying illicit supply networks to apply for this position. Many of the expertise and approaches used to study conventional (i.e., legal) supply network are applicable and of interest to the search committee.
