Dear David,Sometimes you feel that there seems to be a hiddeb agenda somehere. It is hard to see the rational in the arguments. We all know that double figure percetage reduction of CO2 emissions are very har to find. Your blog statment really show that even the modest trailer length increase i effective. This has been show over and over again. A thorough investigation showing just this is the German "Lang- LKW" study reported by by BAST, https://www.bast.de/BASt_2017/DE/Verkehrstechnik/Fachthemen/v1-lang-lkw/v-lang-lkw-abschluss.pdf?__blob=publicationFile&v=3 (In german). There cargo volume is increased and the GCM is kept the same 40/44 tonnes. Still the estimate of the effect on CO2 emmission reduction is 25% introducing EMS.It is so valuable that you put forward the correct numbers about the trails. A common argument that we see often is that those long vehicle will not be compatible in minor roads and small villages. Generally they are not aimed for those small roads. However that fact is not something that activists aiming to stop effective transport like to account for. In stead they use that argument to make the pub,lic concerned. This is just the same what you see in Austria, Germany and other places.Thank you for taking the debate.Best regardsBolennarth SvenssonEMA-QC(independent Swedish consultant)Dear All
I was invited into the local BBC radio station last Monday to discuss the UK trial of longer semitrailers (LSTs). I found myself debating a representative of Campaign for Better Transport – an organisation that campaigns vociferously against heavy goods vehicles.
I decided to write a blog posts on the subject. You can read the full version here… http://www.csrf.ac.uk/2018/10/blog-longer-semitrailers/
I would be interested to hear your views on this topic.
Yours
