Morning,

Have to agree with Julie.

Richard spent a lot of time responding to my concerns about the process and gave thoughtful and informative responses last night.

I think the finer details need to be fleshed out to assuage concerns. They are all there they just haven’t  been communicated yet.

Kind regards,

Morning all

I have read all responses to Richards post yesterday. I am writing this in support purely to outline Richards excellent DSA Approved Software for medical students. (In fact 2013ish Richard had developed software for Bristol university hospital to support medical students who struggle with pharmaceutical and medical terms).

I understand your concerns about the data protection and typos. And perhaps the webinar will address this, I will be part of this too if possible.

I would like to confirm as a assessor the procedure for some students applying forDsa is overwhelming and know this is a large challenge for students at the moment and I can see real potential here!

This raises lots of questions and makes me feel quite uneasy about the direction this seems to be going in. But I think the main problem with this type of commercial activity is the issue of ethical practice in terms of working to the GMC Code of Conduct. I'm also not sure I agree that doctors should be describing themselves as "NHS entrepreneurs", but I suppose it depends ones reason for studying medicine!
Interested to hear what other professionals feel on this matter?

Hi all,

Richard has a product approved by DSA, I have talked with him at length previously. I was impressed with his desire to want to help support students following the difficulties he experienced with dyslexia whilst studying to be a Doctor. Richard also seems extremely entreprenrial.

I genuinely believe this is a problem with the communication of the idea, which could have been communicated better.

I also have questions about the verifying/validity of the disability/evidence and how this is done operationally. However, I certainly feel that this enterprise was conceived to resolve a problem rather than anything maleficent.

Kind regards,

Hi All,

Thanks for the feedback and queries.

It's certainly not a trick, scam or otherwise, and I apologise if I've some how managed to portray this. Through my work within the DSA I became aware of the growing problem for students obtaining medical evidence, and we have worked hard to try and offer a solution. Likewise, I apologise for any typos, I struggle with dyslexia and despite my best efforts sometimes typos slip through the net.

There are lots of questions been raised (quite rightly), which I think I'll try and get back to individually this evening (please keep them coming).

Kind Regards,
Rich

Hmmm......
Just got in touch with SFE to ask about their involvement.

This is ridiculous. How do you have access to the students medical records? All you will have to go on is the anecdotal evidence of the student.

Best wishes

Subject: DSA Medical Evidence Solution

Hi All,

Over a number of months I'd been hearing a lot of stories of students struggling to get Medical Evidence documentation together for their application to the DSA. This was either due to chocker GP/Specialist waiting lists, expensive fees for the completion of private paperwork, or poorly completed documentation not being accepted by SFE.

After discussions with SFE, we recently set up 'The Higher Ed. Clinic' to try and offer these students support. Students can book online appointments with our team of GMC registered doctors, who in consultation with the student, will complete Medical Evidence Forms in real time. We're available in normal working hours, but also evenings and weekends. We're a fraction of the price of the average GP fee, and our team are trained to complete the appropriate documentation correctly.

Check us out here www.thehigheredclinic.com

Happy to talk anyone interested through the service we're offering, and will be hosting webinars for Student Support staff or anyone interested.

Feedback welcome.

Kind Regards,
Rich
