Hello

Dr Sarah May has been working with Lake District shepherds as part of the UCL based AHRC funded project Heritage Futures see e.g. https://heritage-futures.org/lakes-deep-futures-sublime/
which might be interesting for your student to look at even if it isn't directly relevant.
All the best

Also Lois Mansield at Uni Cumbria.
Developing our ongoing work with Welsh Uplands farmers would be a great comparison...already working with small groups and FUW but further funding is really needed to upscale study.

Claire Waterton at Lancaster has done STS/SSK/ANT based sociological research with upland farmers. Brian Wynne did, but is retired(ish). They would be my first contacts at Lancaster Sociology. I don’t know anyone in Geography doing similar at the moment, but I have not worked in Geography (Lancaster Environment Centre) for a few years!

May be useful for comparison, the longstanding 'adopt a sheep' program in the Abruzzi region, Italy. Also Lancaster University has a good Geography dept, maybe they have some knowledge of food and landscape in the Lake District?

Dear critters, I have a PhD student interested in doing some qualitative research on the relationship between food and landscape in the Lake District, specifically connecting with the shepherd community. If you or your colleagues have done any work there, and would not mind sharing some insights with the student, please do get in touch.

Thanks!

Anna
