Archives for London November Seminar 2018

Mapping history with The Layers of London Project: partnership, public engagement and the art of looking up (Jane Muncaster)

The Layers of London project is a Heritage Lottery Funded initiative bringing together major institutions such as the British Library, London Metropolitan Archives (LMA), Historic England, The National Archives and Museum of London Archaeology (MOLA). Academic and strategic leadership comes from the School of Advanced Studies and the Institute of Historical Research at the University of London. With public engagement as a central aim, these organisations are harnessing their collections, knowledge and expertise to create an innovative new website which allows users to create, share and interact with London’s past.

This talk will be led by Jane Muncaster, a representative of the Layers of London team based at LMA.  Jane has been working on the project since March 2018 and has a background in public archive service delivery and in researching photography collections.

Jane will offer an introduction to the project, detail some of the work they have been engaged in and lead a discussion on the benefits of being party to this vibrant initiative.
