Dear colleagues,

we would be grateful if you could bring the following two vacancies to
the attention of possible candidates.

PhD position in experimental and computational astrochemistry:
A 4-year fully funded PhD student position in the field of experimental
and computational astrochemistry is available. Chemical reactions of
interstellar relevance will be characterized by means of imaging
photoelectron photoion coincidence spectroscopy at the Swiss Light Source
and supplementary quantum chemical computations will be performed.
Frequent visits to the Vacuum Ultraviolet Beamline of the Swiss Light
Source at Paul Scherrer Institute are integral part of the project.
Candidates with a background in (physical) chemistry and strong affinity
with astronomy/astrochemistry are strongly encouraged to apply. Basic
knowledge of quantum chemical computations and spectroscopy is beneficial.

See e.g.: Bouwman et al. PCCP 17 (2015) 20508; JPCA 119 (2015) 1127.

Postdoc position in high-resolution infrared spectroscopy:
A two-year fully funded postdoc position in the field of high-resolution
infrared absorption spectroscopy of astrochemically relevant radical
species is available. These radicals are generated in supersonically
expanding plasma and spectra in the 3 micrometer range are recorded using
an operational state-of-the-art CW-cavity ringdown spectrometer. The
candidate is expected to hold a PhD degree in physics, chemistry or a
related field. Previous experience in experimental high-resolution
spectroscopy and spectral analysis, potentially with a supporting
background in ab initio calculations, is required. Affinity with astronomy
and astrochemistry is an advantage.

See e.g.: JCP 149 (2018) A014302; CPL 684 (2017) 351; ApJ 791 (2014) L28.

Appointment
Both the PhD student and postdoctoral researcher will be appointed at the
Sackler Laboratory for Astrophysics, part of Leiden Observatory at the
Faculty of Science of Leiden University, the Netherlands and are funded
within the framework of a recently awarded NWO VIDI grant.

Applications
The deadline for applications is September 30th, 2018 but applications are
accepted until the positions are filled. Please send a cover letter, a
resume and contact information of two persons willing to provide a letter
of support to Dr. Jordy Bouwman ([log in to unmask]) for the PhD
position and also to [log in to unmask] for the postdoc position.

or contact us by e-mail.

With kind regards,

Jordy Bouwman
