Oh, shame! Having just skimmed through the IMCoS Jl review of the Van den Broecke Ortelius book + DVD, I see that it is OXFORD's Bodleian Library that is hosting, since 2015, Ortelius correspondence via its 'EMLO' = 'Early Modern Letters Online' (see p. 59 of said review).

But, Huw (et al.), why not try a Belgian or two who are fluent English speakers and writers?

Dr Joost Depuydt (chief organiser of ICHC 2015 in Antwerp - 'home' of the Plantin-Moretus Museum - employed in Antwerp's Felix Archief, who has studied (e.g.) the MS Album Amicorum to Ortelius, and is a 'lead' in increasing the number of known Ortelius correspondence/connections via a Cambridge University [?] online project); or, indeed, Dr Dirk Imhof of the same Museum who also has published on Ortelius (due to Plantin being an important printer for our Abraham).

There was also an Irish academic who, a 'few' years back (Catherine DS might recall - certainly Joost will) tackled a wider aspect than just Ortelius's maps and coins; he, after all, is just over the water to you . . . It is, I suggest, Ortelius's correspondence and the Album Amicorum that will be central or a 'key' to your expressed wish.

PS: have you access to Dutchman Dr Marcel van den Broecke's hard cover Abraham Ortelius 1527 - 1598 : life, work, sources and friends (Bilthoven NL : Cartographica Neerlandica, 2015), ISBN 978-90-9029486-5 (with DVD inside the back cover). There is a scary review of this work in the same issue of IMCoS Jl wherein your own illustrated article ('Darluniad y ddaear : Pre-twentieth-century Welsh language maps of the world') appeared - Summer 2017, 149, [32]-37.

Dear Huw,

Marcel van den Broecke is a specialist on Ortelius, and he did a PhD about the Theatrum Orbis Terrarum. See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marcel_van_den_Broecke and http://www.orteliusmaps.com/

Kind regards,

Marco van Egmond

Hello,

Does anybody know of someone who would be able to give a talk about the work of Ortelius, if possible with reference to his links to other scholars around Europe.

Thanks,

Huw
