This is to let you know that that the British Library is recruiting a curator of Romance Languages Collections, with a focus on French.
The post is based in the European and Americas Collections Department at the British Library. Please see the advert text below.

The British Library holds one of the largest and most important collections in the world from the Romance language areas, from the dawn of printing to the present day, and now also embracing digital resources. As a core member of the Romance team, you will help to build the Romance collections, with a focus on French, through acquisition and donation and seek to make this intellectual heritage accessible to everyone, for research, inspiration and enjoyment. You will help to manage the post-1850 collections, and be responsible for contemporary acquisitions, including the introduction of approval plans, from the French-speaking countries of Europe and will assist those using the Romance collections across all periods and to encourage their use both on site and online.

You will have a degree-level or equivalent knowledge of French and a willingness to develop further linguistic and cultural knowledge relating to the Romance areas as required. A working knowledge of another key Romance language is desirable. You will also have experience of relevant work in a research library or similar institution and, ideally, a library qualification or post-graduate degree in a discipline relevant for the role, such as French, Literature, History or Politics. You will bring to the role a demonstrable ability to engage with a range of groups, including the general public and an academic audience, and an understanding of current research trends in French Studies. You will also assist in implementing new technologies to make our collections more accessible via online and digital platforms.
