Hello. You may be interested in this project that I co-led with two colleagues at Simmons this year looking at the intersection possibilities of librarians working with journalists. It's just the beginning of developing these ideas into robust projects but if you see anything that inspires you - please build on it! Lisa

Subject: Request for help: librarians fighting misinformation/fake news

The Open University (OU) is a partner in the EU-funded project, Co-Inform (http://coinform.eu/co-inform-project-kicks-off/). The aim of the project is to develop tools to engage citizens, journalists, and policymakers in fighting misinformation on social media.

In early October the OU is running a workshop with the aim of bringing together people from around the OU who are working in this area. I’m presenting for 15 minutes on what librarians and information professionals worldwide are doing to combat misinformation/fake news. I’m gathering examples to present and I’d really appreciate your input. I’m planning to mention:

·         IFLA How to Spot Fake News infographic (https://www.ifla.org/publications/node/11174)

·         London South Bank University conference on fake news (https://libguides.lsbu.ac.uk/llrblog/thisisnotafakeconference)

·         The UK-wide Information Literacy Group (https://infolit.org.uk/the-role-of-information-literacy-in-the-fight-against-fake-news/)

If there are any other tools, projects or initiatives that I should mention, please do get in touch with me.

Many thanks in advance,

Helen
