Hi Glenn

thanks for the email.

We are currently reviewing the situation; do not currently charge for enquiries but for research enquiries which take more than an hour we may consider charges.

In terms of income, we charge the public for curatorial talks, tours, workshops and on-gallery talks (advertised on the website, social media and the What's On booklet). However, talks in the lunchtime series (lasting half an hour) are currently not charged for. I also contribute to University of Cumbria teaching for which there are charges (though we offer them a special rate).

Some loans are charged for, and there are charges for reproducing images.

Hope that helps.

Best regards

Simon

Subject: Curatorial Income Generation

Hello NatSCA People,

Our museum looking to push for a stronger focus on income generation and we are looking to review our charging rates for curatorial time. It would be greatly appreciated if you could take the time to answer a few questions to guide us on this.

  1. Does your museum charge for curatorial time?
  2. What kind of request would you expect to be able to charge for?
  3. What is the hourly/daily rate your museum charges?
  4. Are there any curatorial programmes/activities you have developed specifically to raise income?

If you have any charging policies you’re able to share, that would be really useful too.

Huge thanks if you’re able to take the time to respond. Even if your museum doesn’t charge for curatorial time and most of these questions aren’t applicable, that would be useful to know too!

Kind regards,

Glenn
