The University Library at the University of Hull is looking to fill the post of Research Support Librarian to help take forward the development of the Library’s research services.  Details can be found at:

https://jobs.hull.ac.uk/LL0056

The University Library has a vision to inspire our University, local and global communities through open scholarship, culture and heritage. The Library’s mission is focused on achieving this through the ongoing development of library and archival collections in print and digital forms; with the university’s own digital content, especially its research output; and with delivering of access to this material as easily, as pervasively and as efficiently as possible.  Within the Library, the Information Services Group is based within the Brynmor Jones Library on the Hull campus and provides support to all parts of the University. The Brynmor Jones Library is at the heart of the academic life of the University and attracts several thousand students, staff and external users every day. It also includes the publicly accessible University art gallery plus exhibition and event spaces.

The Group comprises teams that address the University’s needs in collections development, technology for library services, and research support: the Research Services Team has a focus on the delivery of services for the management of resources generated through the research activity of the University. Key in this area is support for open access, research data management, bibliometrics, and research resource discovery: the Library also has a key role in the management of research outputs through the University’s research information system, Worktribe. This is an exciting time for the University Library, working within the completely re-developed Brynmor Jones Library and with the development of research a key strategic area for the University under the guidance our new Vice-Chancellor.

The Research Support Librarian will be responsible for the development and operation of information services related to the research activity of the University, liaising with academic staff and professional service colleagues in the ICT Directorate, Research & Innovation Office, and Strategic Development Unit to define needs and how the Library can meet these. The post-holder will manage and lead the team responsible for delivering research support services, comprising the post-holder and Research Officer, and working with colleagues across the Library as required for service delivery. The post-holder will also take responsibility for the management of digital collections within the Hydra digital repository and copyright and licensing matters related to research.

The post-holder will need to ensure that all services meet strategic needs as well as take account of wider sector developments. As a contributing member to the Library’s management, the Research Support Librarian will be a source of knowledge within the Library regarding trends in the development of research support services and advise the Senior Management Team on the potential benefits, opportunities and challenges offered. The post is expected to be outward-facing, liaising with relevant HE community and research support bodies, representing the University Library and its needs on these as appropriate.

Regards,

Chris Awre
