Dear Gill/colleagues There are some free to download resources on staying safe designed for women ESOL learners on the Learning Unlimited website which may be of interest: ‘Staying safe at home’ and ‘Staying safe outside the home’. These units were developed with Greenwich Community College as part of the ‘Teaching and Learning English’ project and domestic violence is included as a topic: http://www.learningunlimited.co/files/TALE_StayingSafehome.pdf http://www.learningunlimited.co/files/TALE_StayingSafeoutside.pdf (Teaching and Learning English was a pre-departure European Integration Fund (EIF) project which Learning Unlimited ran in partnership with UKBET in Bangladesh, St Giles Educational Trust and Greenwich Community College). The audio files for these two units, as well as several other free toolkits such as ‘Welcome to the UK’ and ‘Preparing for life in the UK’, are also in the Free resources section of our website: http://www.learningunlimited.co/publications/free-resources Violence towards women/attempted rape are covered in ‘Too much crime’ (Entry 1)/‘Violent Crime’(Entry 2+) in our ‘Literacy for Active citizenship’ graded ESOL readers http://www.learningunlimited.co/publications/esolreaders . These readers are based on stories written by ESOL learners and project volunteers and we are planning to include more topics on women’s issues in future readers.
