This special issue is now open for submission.

Introduction:

Sustainability modeling issues for diverse range of engineering applications have received an extensive grow in the last twenty years. Sustainability aims to conserve energy and natural resources, and to ensure that they have minimal impact on the environment and society. This tends the researchers to explore various phases and bring societal outcomes which benefit the country and residents. It targets at fulfilling the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Discussions about the implementation of green strategies may lead to affordable product price, faster time-to-market, higher quality, and advantages relative to enterprise competition. Investigators in area of engineering and design seek to demonstrate advanced tools and models rather than relying on classical and trial and error methods in order to enhance quality of engineering process and productivity. Real-world decision problems often require the consideration and analysis of a group of criteria that affect the final evaluation. As criteria are frequently conflicting in nature, decision makers need a scientific approach to conduct such complex analyses. Therefore, the use of intelligent multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) and decision support systems (DSSs) have gained considerable attention in both academia and practice to solving such real time industrial problems. DSS is an interactive computer-based systems and subsystems intended to help decision makers use communications technologies, data, documents, knowledge and/or models to complete decision process tasks. Societal and technological trends devise the decision environments more and more complex. The emergence of the intelligent decision making technology provides a good decision support to deal with these complex decision-making problems, and soft computing plays a core role in the intelligent decision making technology.

Objective:

The main aim of this special issue is to enrich the vision of scholars, researchers and professionals who are working in the area of manufacturing, materials, supply chain, logistics, energy, optimization and industrial engineering and to create further awareness about the need for improvement in their respective field. Specifically, it focuses on the contributions towards the development of mathematical models for modeling decision problems, as well as soft computing approaches that are able to deal with complex decision information.

Recommended Topics:

Topics to be discussed in this special issue include (but are not limited to) the following:

• Applications of crisp multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) tools for modeling sustainability issues
• Fuzzy MCDM modeling in intelligent decision support systems
• Rough number-based model applications
• Hybrid / integrated MCDM method applications
• Consistency issues in preference modeling
• Intelligent negotiation systems
• Aggregation of preferences based on soft computing
• Missing preferences in the intelligent decision making
• Applications of the intelligent decision support systems as in manufacturing, materials, supply chain, logistics, energy, portfolio management, resource allocation, and industrial engineering
• Comparative analysis of different intelligent decision making models • Applications of data mining tools in MCDM modeling
