Dear colleagues,

You are invited to take part in Adventures in Research: Screenwriting, Art Practice, and Performance a day of script development as performance with Craig Batty (RMIT University / University of Technology Sydney) and Emma Bolland (Sheffield Hallam University).

Friday 7th September, 2018, 10.30 am—4.30 am

S1 Art Space

Sheffield Hallam University ADRC Ph.D. Project Space

1 Norwich Street, Park Hill, Sheffield, S2 5PN

Working with two ‘screenplays as research’ - A Vacuous Screenplay in Search of Rigour (Craig Batty) and The Iris Opens, the Iris Closes: Le Silence (Emma Bolland) - we will test the potential of read-through and rehearsal as method in practice-based research. Exploring the interface between script and shoot, text and performance, the day will be filmed and recorded throughout. You are invited to take part as a reader, and to be part of discussion throughout the day. There will be a talk from Craig about screenwriting as practice as research, and the filmed and recorded material will be used by both Craig and Emma in developing collaborative and individual research materials, such as submissions for online AV journals, and short films. All participants will be credited. The day has been made possible by Dr Becky Shaw of the C3ri Research Centre at Sheffield Hallam University.

Places are limited so booking is essential: please email Emma Bolland at [log in to unmask] introducing yourself and your affiliation, and a brief outline of your interests, or simply for more information. Very limited refreshments will be available (cold drinks), but there is a good café very near to the venue. You are also welcome to bring a packed lunch.

We look forward to welcoming you!

Best wishes,

Craig and Emma
