Hi David

The records should be kept for 40 years from date of certification, in order to help demonstrate that adequate training was provide in the event that asbestos exposure is discovered retrospectively.

Kind regards

Peter

We do not send records of asbestos exposure to central HR. The only record we would have is that a staff member has been on a training course in handling asbestos. How long should this be retained?

Thanks

Hi David

The standard retention for a local copy of a personnel file is 6 years.  If there has been any exposure to asbestos, then any documents which show that should be on the central HR file, so if you come across anything like that I would contact HR and see if they have awareness of it.

The retention period for hand arm vibration would not be the same as for asbestos, as the symptoms would show up over a much shorter time period.

Kind regards

Peter

Hi

Trying to sort our personnel files out, could you confirm retention times are 6 years after person has left unless there is a dismissal or health issue such as working with asbestos.

Also would Hand Arm Vibration come under the same categorisation as Asbestos?

Thanks
