Do you have some bibliography for this? What about recipes?

Probably because 'pear wine' (perry, pear cider) was produced less abundantly than grape wine, so it had a certain cachet. Mead (honey wine) was similarly held in high regard. Both were associated with monasteries and therefore godliness.

Subject: [M-R] Pear wine

medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture Dear Colleagues,
I've run across a saint's life in which one evidence of holiness was that the saint drank wine sparingly, and then only pear wine. Does anyone know why pear wine was seen this way? Thanks for your help, as always.

Lovely. Thanks very much.

Curious how medieval ringers seem almost always to be chiming two bells at
once. There are people nowadays who can ring two bells full circle
together, but it's not common.

I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned the pictures of bell ringers on English
fonts, if not, you can check out the two images on the fonts at:

1) A man is ringing two bells on the font at Belton nr. Grantham
(Lincs.), Parish Church of Saint Paul and Saint Peter, Late Norman?
[re-carved?]. Notes: Tyrrell-Green (1928) remarks that the image of the
bell-ringer on this font alludes to the name of the town [BELTON: bell town]
and states that the fonts at Belton, Hereford Cathedral, Micheldean
(Gloucs.) and Rendcombe (Gloucs.) were "evidently produced by the same hand,
or by the same school of workmen".

2) A male figure ringing two bells by their ropes, Hutton Cranswick /
Cranzvic & Hotone [Domesday] / Cranzvic & Hottune [Domesday] [now in the
Yorkshire Museum, York], Norman (recycled font?),

Cheers, Harriet
