Dear All,

The GSA Annual Meeting is in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA – November 4th -7th
2018. *Abstracts are due August 14th.*

*Please see:*

*T181. Recent advances and future directions in paleoaltimetry and
paleoclimate*

*Invited speakers:*

*Jay Quade, University of Arizona, USA*

*Christopher Poulsen, University of Michigan, USA*

*Andres Mulch, Goethe University Frankfurt, Germany*

*Full Session Rationale:*

Earth’s surface is an integrated expression of lithospheric and atmospheric
processes involving tectonics, geodynamics, and climate. Documentation and
quantification of major topographic changes in the geologic record are
difficult and exciting challenges that are now attainable through a variety
of proxy techniques. Recent efforts have led to a better understanding of
linkages between lithosphere, atmosphere, and biosphere, with considerable
advances in determining how changes in surface topography affect erosion,
the organization of rivers, basin evolution, local and global climate, and
biodiversity. Multidisciplinary collaborations are critical for the
advancement of paleoaltimetry studies. We hope to facilitate discussions
related to reconstructing past topography and the evolution of landscapes
including new methods, case studies, key challenges, and future research
directives. Therefore, *we seek a diverse range of contributions including,
but not limited to, stable isotope geochemistry, paleoecology,
phylogenetics, geochronology, geomorphology, crustal deformation,
sedimentary basin analysis, and geodynamic, geophysical, and (paleo-)
climate modeling.*
