First announcement and call for sessions

The International Congresses of the G.S.G. are multidisciplinary Earth science events, focusing on, but not limited to, the broader Aegean region and its surroundings, with the view to highlighting the contribution of geosciences to the study of the environment, natural resources and natural hazards. GSG 2019 aims at bringing together geoscientists from all over the world and providing a forum where scientists, especially early career researchers, will present their research in all fields of geosciences.

Call for session | mini workshop | round-table session proposals

GSG 2019 is organized in sessions, grouped under broad thematic headers. You are invited to actively participate in the Scientific Programme of GSG 2019, by suggesting a Session, Mini Workshop or Round Table. Please browse through the theme list, to select the one that fits best your scientific area of interest.

Session proposals should aim at a minimum of ten submissions. Partially overlapping sessions, or the ones with too few submissions may be merged, so that the scientific programme is more robust and manageable.
Mini workshops will focus on hot topics or latest emerging research areas. They should include a minimum of three speakers.
Round-table sessions call for a broader, more informal discussion on a particular topic, following a presentation by the round-table convener(s).

Steps for session proposals

Provide a title for your Session, along with a brief description (c. 300 words), including focus, scope and objectives.
Provide name(s), affiliation(s), contact details of co-conveners. Please make sure that the number of co-conveners is reasonable (preferably not more than three, including the lead convener); co-conveners should ideally come from different institutions and represent various career stages (early career scientists are strongly encouraged).
Please indicate which Thematic Header your Special Session falls into.
Provide name(s) and contact information for invited speaker(s) (if any).
Submit all the above to the organizing committee, via e-mail ([log in to unmask]) by 30 September 2018. You can use the same e-mail address, should you have any questions.

The proceedings of GSG 2019 will consist of extended abstracts (up to four pages long, including figure(s) and reference list). These extended abstracts will be included in a Special Volume of the Bulletin of the Geological Society of Greece (BGSG). Colleagues who wish to have a full version of their paper published are encouraged to do so and submit their paper to the BGSG, after the Congress.

1 January 2019: Extended Abstract Submission Begins
15 March 2019: Extended Abstract Submission Ends
15 April 2019: Early registration deadline
Mid-April 2019: Authors notified of acceptance
Early May 2019: Scientific Program announced
22-24 May 2019: Congress
30 June 2019: Deadline for submission of full papers to BGSG.
