Hello all

I’ve been reading about the work of Heart & Parcel in Manchester, from their website & blog.

https://heartparcel.wordpress.com/

From their website: “Heart & Parcel was founded in Manchester in 2015 to bring women from communities together by making dumplings and developing ESOL skills. Why Dumplings? Dumplings are interesting as they appear in almost every culture but differ in shape and filling. The process of making dumplings requires teamwork, a long period of time and many conversations in between.”

Here they write about recent work with Refugee Action, where they set up a cooking project which ran alongside formal ESOL classes.

https://heartparcel.wordpress.com/refugee-action-project-may-2018/ (link to the .pdf report from here).

They appear to be subverting the well-worn binary of formal/informal in a very interesting way.

Cheers

James
