Hi Emmylou,

I am no expert in this field, but since I work for a national archive in Scotland I did ask some colleagues for suggestions. You might know already about the Endangered Archives programme at the British Library - https://eap.bl.uk/ - whilst it might not be a suitable grant fund, there are a number of projects in Namibia and Botswana which might provide useful contacts locally.

Hope this helps.

Best,

Chiara

Subject: Archival repository for 1950s fieldwork Collection

Hi all,

We have stumbled upon an incredible private research collection of fieldwork notes, photographs, journals, sketches compiled during work with San communities in Namibia and Botswana in the 1950s to 1970s.

The collection is of incredible value in the fields of ethnobotany, linguistics, paleontology, food security, anthropology, archaeology, etc. as it holds original data that is no longer obtainable.

We are looking around to find institutions/ universities/ research units that would be suited to housing such a collection with proper care and encourage accessibility (thinking open source digital archives) to researchers and public alike.

We’re in Cape Town, but looking further afield. If anyone has ideas, suggestions or contacts please do email me.
