Hi Nina

We used teaching staff this year for the GCSE days as we had between 1200 and 1600 students sitting down.  We actually collapsed the classes on these mornings as we needed most of the rooms so staff were available.  We spent a lot of time running training sessions but on the whole it worked quite well.  Yes there were some awkward beggers who obviously thought it wasn’t their job and a couple who rang in sick on the day, but it was OK.  The majority of the paperwork was done correctly and some of them actually enjoyed it!  I think we needed 93 invigilators on the 8th and I only have 18 in the invigilation bank so we really had no option.

Thanks

Hi Nina

We don’t use teaching staff at all – too many problems.  You also need to have a lead with overall control, and I think the ICE book states you must have training every year, so you would need to consider that too.

Good luck!

Hi

We currently employ external invigilators for the majority of our exams, due to budget constraints within F.E. colleges  we may be moving towards teaching staff to cover all our exams.

We  as exam staff feel that this will be a nightmare .

Do you use teaching staff at your college, if so how has it worked out, do they turn up in good time, past experience has been very last minute etc.

If you have a 3 hour exam , do they tend to swap over due to their teaching timetables.

How do you manage to organise teaching staff as invigilators if you hold exams off site and external venue’s, 30 miles away?
