Workshop on Informalisation of Care for Older Adults
Mon-Tue 27th and 28th of November 2018 at Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences, School of Health Care and Social Work, Kalevankatu 35, Seinäjoki, Auditorium C0062.
Four PhD student travel grants available
In all Nordic countries, growing numbers of increasingly old and frail individuals are living at home. Concurrently, health and social care services to older adults aging in place are radically changing, including marketization and digitalization of formal service provision and increasing reliance on informal care. There is a risk that these changes will increase the ongoing polarization of care for older adults aging in place.

Against this backdrop, the HOOC network tackles the future organization of social and health care of older adults at home in the Nordic countries. We invite senior and junior researchers and practitioners to engage in a critical discussion on the consequences of aging in place in the Nordic countries through a series of three workshops held in Odense in October 2018, in Seinäjoki in November 2018 and in Stockholm in May 2019. In each workshop, established researchers, senior and junior scholars, practitioners, policy makers and students have the opportunity to listen to expert lectures, to engage in discussions and to develop new ideas for policy, practice and research.

The workshop in Seinäjoki, Finland addresses the question: What are the implications of informalisation of care for older adults? Are care services based on the assumption that informal care is available? What kind of support is given to those in need and to those giving care? Are services able to help older adults sufficiently at home? The invited speakers represent policy actors, informal carers, non-governmental organisations and research.
The workshop includes following speakers: Associate Professor Laura Kalliomaa-Puha and Postdoctoral Researcher Liina Sointu from the University of Tampere, Project Manager Katri Länsivuori, from South Karelia Social and Health Care District and local actors Miisa Lamminen from The Family Caregiving Association of Lakeus, Merja Riikonen from FinFami, The Family Association Promoting Mental Health in South Ostrobothnia, Minna Huhtamäki-Kuoppala from The Memory Association of South Ostrobothnia and Kirsti Esala from The Lutheran Church of Seinäjoki.

We welcome senior and junior researchers and practitioners to attend the workshop. Participation is free of charge with coffee and lunch. The call for papers is open for PhD-students. We offer free accommodation and maximum 150 euro travel support for the four PhD student who present their papers. Deadline for abstracts is the 31st of October 2018 (please see below for further instructions). We encourage the selected PhD presenters to send a long paper by 19th of October for more through comments. Please send your abstract to Minna Zechner (@seamk.fi). Sign up to the event here<https://www.lyyti.in/Workshop_Nov_18> by 18th of November.

Workshop on Informalisation of Care for Older Adults

27th and 28th of November 2018 in Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences (SeAMK), Finland
School of Health Care and Social Work, Kalevankatu 35, Seinäjoki, Auditorium C0062. Free of charge!

In all Nordic countries, growing numbers of increasingly old and frail individuals are living at home. This calls for new approaches in care policies and practices. Informal carers are the main providers of care for older adults and services tend to be scant. At the same time, services are marketised and digitalised. This workshop tackles the issues of informal care with high quality presentations of researchers and practice-oriented actors. There is also space for four PhD students to present their research and receive comments. PhD paper presenters are eligible for free accommodation and small travel grants for participation. The event is organized in cooperation with University of Southern Denmark and Stockholm University.
