An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Plant Productivity Research Group at the University of Essex. Professor Christine Raines seeks to appoint a full-time Senior Research Officer with experience in the area of gene editing and the underlying bioinformatics. The candidate will be developing CRISPR/Cas9 tools to target changes in expression of endogenous photosynthesis genes in tobacco. This work will form an essential part of a project led by Prof Raines aiming to improve photosynthesis in tobacco and other crop plants. This forms one strand of an exciting international consortium funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. This consortium is headed by Professor S Long, Illinois, USA. The post is available immediately and is funded for an initial period of 24 months. The Plant Productivity Research Group is one of 5 research groups in the School and focuses on understanding and improving processes that determine plant productivity and plant responses to changing environmental conditions. The candidate will be joining a group of 3 postdoctoral researchers, two research technician and 2 PhD students. The Plant Productivity group works closely together with the School's Genomics and Computational Biology group. This group has particular strengths in computational biology, with extensive experience in the analysis of large genomics data sets, modelling of transcription factor binding, epigenetics and molecular phylogeny.
