MK20109 - Trainee/Healthcare Clinical Scientist in Biochemistry
Aberdeen Royal Infirmary

This post will be Band 6 or 7 Depending on experience.

We are seeking two enthusiastic Band 6/7 Clinical Biochemists to join our existing team of five Clinical Scientists, four Chemical Pathologists and over forty BMS plus other support staff. You may already be, or soon to be, a state registered clinical scientist in Clinical Biochemistry seeking a substantive post. Alternatively this post may provide an opportunity for an experienced HCPC registered Bio-Medical Scientist in Clinical Biochemistry wishing to progress through the three year NSHCS training programme to achieve HCPC registration as Clinical Scientist.

The post holder will be supported academically in pursuit of postgraduate qualifications (MSc) and in career development alongside our current STP, medical ST and FY2 trainee programmes. In addition the department intends to provide full support for the post holder to meet HSST equivalence criteria and funding will be provided in relation to R&D activities including attendance at national/international conferences.

The Clinical Biochemistry Department based at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary is the sole provider of services to NHS Grampian (1400 beds) incorporating Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, Aberdeen Royal Maternity Hospital, Aberdeen Royal Children's Hospital (all on the ARI campus), Woodend Hospital (Elderly; Aberdeen), Cornhill Hospital (Psychiatry; Aberdeen) and Dr Gray's Hospital (Elgin). The department serves a population of 600,000 people and carries out 9 million tests per annum.

The post holders will have responsibility for participating in the Duty Biochemist rota, supporting the service in maintaining its UKAS accreditation status and providing and managing a range of complex scientific investigations demanding highly skilled experience in the specialist areas of Toxicology and Paediatric Inherited Metabolic Biochemistry and Endocrinology. This will include conducting research and service developments, together with maintaining quality assurance and clinical audit, within these areas in accordance with Clinical Pathology Accreditation standards.
