This is a query to biochemists / chemical pathologists in UK laboratories about whether you have made changes to your evening and weekend duties over the past few years and what you do currently.

 

Is there a formal on-call system in place, and how many people take part in it?

 

Have you joined forces with neighbouring hospitals / trusts? Has that been successful in practice?

 

Have you considered not having a formal system but taking calls on an ad hoc basis?

 

I would be happy to collate responses and post back to the mailbase.
