We have retained OpenText for our staff intranet for all info that pertains to all staff and also for the purposes of FOI/disclosure – you can view this at
https://www.abdn.ac.uk/staffnet/
We use SharePoint 365 as an intranet-of-intranets, where school/department/unit/section/project groups can collaborate, share and work on documentation. There are also
elements of the SharePoint tenancy that are open University-wide; eg: info about ongoing projects; internal institutional resources such as course approval etc.
In summary I think we use play each tool to its strengths. SharePoint is referenced from the OpenText ‘StaffNet’ where necessary.

Mike

Hi,
Last summer we evaluated Sharepoint (Online) as a potential home for our intranet but it was found to be too immature at the moment, for the same reasons you mentioned. We are keeping an eye on it but so far
this has not changed.
Best regards,
Graham

Subject: Sharepoint for Staff Intranets
We are currently looking at the option for moving our staff intranet from OpenText into a SharePoint site. During the trial run we’ve found it is fairly inflexible, only 2 levels of navigation, lack of available
functionality, etc and we’re wondering if anyone else is looking to make the move as well and would be willing to share any of their experiences?
Any feedback would be very welcome!
Many thanks,
Kris
