[with apologies for crossposting]

Dear colleagues,

We are currently recruiting for a Research Associate position on Machine Learning and Simulation for Autonomous Vehicle Fleets. This post is funded from Innovate UK and the Centre for Connected and Autonomous and linked to a collaborative project that will design, trial and deploy a commercial, subscription-based platform, based on SAE Level 4 self-driving electric vehicles. The successful applicant will become a member of the Transport Systems & Logistics group (TSL) led by Dr Panagiotis Angeloudis, join the Centre for Transport Studies at the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering, Imperial College London, and will be working closely with our project partners.

This is a fixed term appointment for up to 2 years. The closing date for applications is on the 15th of April, with interviews to follow soon afterwards. The salary will be based on the level of relevant experience of the successful candidate, and within the £32,380 - £44,220 range (plus benefits).

The postholder will contribute to the development of an in-house, large-scale, autonomous vehicle simulation platform that has been in development by the Transport Systems & Logistics group. Through a combination of Machine Learning and Mathematical Programming, the project will focus on specifying aspects of the operational and design aspects of the platform across all levels, including autonomous driving, swarming behaviour, user charging, vehicle dispatching, public transport integration and the design of supporting infrastructure.

Applicants must have a good undergraduate degree or MSc in Electrical or Transport Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics (or equivalent) for an appointment at Research Assistant level or a PhD in Electrical or Transport Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics (or equivalent) for an appointment at Research Associate level.

This must be accompanied by expertise in computer programming (in C#, Python or equivalent languages). Previous experience in several of the following will also be beneficial:

* Optimisation (e.g. Mathematical Programming, Metaheuristics)

* Machine Learning (e.g. Reinforcement Learning, Bayesian Methods, Deep Learning)

* Traffic / Agent-Based Simulation (e.g. VISSIM, SUMO, Mesa)

* Visualisation (e.g. Unity, Monogame)
