There is also J. A. Burrow, The Ages of Man: A Study in Medieval Writing and Thought. Oxford: Clarendon Press, 1986.
And a search of the IMB under the subject “Ages of Man, artistic and literary topos” provides 36 hits you could explore.
No time to check carefully right now, but Isidore of Seville treats this in some detail in 11.ii (De aetatibus hominum) (in the Stephen Barney translation: pp. 241-243; my copy of Gasti’s edition in Auteurs Latin du moyen Age, vol. 11 is at the office). And Hrabanus Maurus treats it in De rerum naturis 7, 1 (PL 111:179-185). There is a partial list of sources in Elisabeth Heyse Hrabanus Maurus’ Encyklopädie ,De rerum naturis’ (Munich, 1969), pp. 90-91.

For what it's worth, there is an article on "History" in Augustine Through the Ages (Ed. by A. D. Fitzgerald, Eerdmans, 1999, pp. 432-4), which discusses Augustine's views on the six ages, with relevant bibliography at the end of the entry.

I have been following the recent discussion with great interest, thanks to all involved. In the meantime, though, I am stuck for 'search' terminology. I´m trying to find resources for discussions of the 6 (or 7) ages of the world, but (except for Wikipedia) none of the encyclopedias I have looked at has such an entry. Is there some other term / key word I should be using? I´d also be interested in good bibliography on this subject.
