Chief External Examiner for Early Childhood Education and Care (EYTS)

 

In October 2017 the Teacher Education department successfully completed stage two of a full OFSTED inspection. The phase was graded as outstanding. We are currently looking for a dedicated individual to undertake the role of Chief External Examiner for our Early Childhood Education and Care (EYTS) phase at Sheffield Hallam University.

 

Your role & responsibilities would include:

 

  • confirming the comparability of standards of student performance within the phase age range at Sheffield Hallam University with those of similar provision at other UK Institutions of Higher Education;
  • confirming that the assessment process in its entirety is sound, and has been fairly conducted with full regard to justice to students;
  • reporting and advising on the above by means of approving coursework and examination papers and providing an annual report to the University;
  • conducting visits to placement locations to observe trainees and mentoring processes;
  • meeting with Newly Qualified Early Years Teachers (NQEYTs) that have trained through the University or with one out our School Direct Partners;
  • overseeing reports of any other external examiner in the event that an additional person is engaged for the phase. (Currently you would be the sole external examiner for the phase and there are no plans to engage more at present.)

You should have appropriate expertise and experience to be able to undertake a role in the assurance of academic standards in Higher Education.

 

The appointee will be required to moderate a sample of scripts in relation to selected modules within the above phase. You will be required to attend the university for Assessment Boards, a meeting with the course team, and to sample placement provision. The number of visits to Sheffield will usually be around three or four per year. You will also be required to produce an annual report.

 

You will also be required to attend a one off, one day University External Examiners Induction session.
