The Department of Sociology at Queen's University, Ontario, is looking for a Queen's National Scholar (QNS) in Intersectional Surveillance Studies, specializing in Big Data and Social Inequality, at Assistant or Associate Professor level. The start date is negotiable, but could be any time from July 1st 2018. ----- Let me say a few less bureaucratically official things about this position from my point of view in the Surveillance Studies Centre (SSC). This is a unique position. Surveillance Studies is changing and growing, and SSC wants to encourage this. We want Surveillance Studies to be diverse and focus on equality, social justice and human rights. We want the person who gets this job to exemplfy this in their work and in themselves. We want an excellent scholar, who would be an active member of both the Department of Sociology and the SSC, but we aren't looking for another scholar who works (or looks) just like myself or David Lyon. However, this position is also envisaged to lead to the eventual Directorship of the Surveillance Studies Centre at Queen's. David Lyon is looking towards retirement and I'm not looking to be a long-term Director. We want someone who supports the goals of openness, excellent scholarship and care for students and colleagues that all us involved in Surveillance Studies have tried to cultivate, whether at SSC, through Surveillance & Society and the Surveillance Studies Network and in further afield.
