Hello Simon
Just to flag up that we don’t have any related instruments, but have two wet specimens, both of pre 1825 … if they are of interest?

Subject: Smallpox sampling requests

Morning all

I’m aware that there are at least two and possibly three research groups interested in taking samples from historic smallpox vaccination instruments in UK museums in order to determine (via genetic sequencing) the nature of historic vaccinia. I know that the Science Museum and the Jenner Museum have been approached, I’d be interested to know if others have too and if there is interest in adopting a common response to such requests.

Best wishes

Simon Chaplin
