*Assistant Professor, Communication, University of South Florida*

The Department of Communication at the University of South Florida invites
applications for a tenure-earning position at the rank of Assistant
Professor. We seek a colleague who has an empirical social scientist
background and is able to contribute to one or more of the department’s
content areas. Beginning date is expected to be August 7, 2018.

The Department of Communication at USF offers B.A., M.A., and Ph.D.
programs, with over 700 undergraduate majors, 50 graduate students, and 18
full-time faculty members. We specialize in the areas of relating and
organizing, health, and media, with an interest in overarching processes of
culture, advocacy, and performance. Located in Tampa, Florida, USF is a
comprehensive research university with over 42,000 students and nearly
50,000 in the 3-campus USF system.



The Department of Communication is looking to build upon its international
reputation as a leader in qualitative and critical studies by attracting
faculty with diverse and innovative quantitative approaches to the study of
Communication. USF is on the path to designation as a preeminent university
in Florida and the nation, and is positioned to become a member of the
American Association of Universities. USF hopes to recruit and retain
outstanding scholars, researchers, teachers, and students who will
contribute to creative and thoughtful solutions to today’s myriad social
problems.



*Minimum Qualifications.* Ph.D. in Communication or related areas by the
start of appointment. Research program that entails mixed methods,
computational social science, or innovative social scientific methods.



*Preferred Qualifications:* Preference will be given to candidates with the
following qualifications:

1.      Ability to teach courses and mentor graduate students related to
applicant’s content and methodological areas of expertise.

2.      Ability to contribute to the Department’s long-standing tradition
of qualitative and critical studies of human communication.

3.      Record of publications commensurate with a doctoral degree granting
department in a Research-1 institution.

4.      Record of (or potential for) external funding.
