Dear One & All,

Just letting you know about an afternoon of presentations and discussions exploring possibilities in working with photography archives and the relationships between documentary and the documented… SPEAKING TO THE FUTURE is on Sunday 22nd October, from 2pm to 5pm, at Side Cinema in Newcastle upon Tyne - a snip at £5.

Speakers will be:

Mark Sealy, Director of Autograph ABP, which since 2008 has been building the UK's first permanent collection of culturally diverse photography; Amber's Sirkka-Liisa Konttinen & Peter Roberts, who are currently developing film re-engagements with some of the individual subjects in Sirkka's photographs of the 1970s and 80s; Graeme Rigby who has overseen the development of the new Amber website and the ways in which it opens up on the AmberSide Collection; Peter Fryer who has been working for the past 15 years, documenting culturally diverse Laygate in South Shields, creating a richly interconnected archive of the community.

This event is part of a programme of events linked to Gordon Parks: A Choice of Weapons at Side Gallery from Saturday 21 October to Sunday 17 December. It has been curated by Mark Sealy.
