Calling all emerging researchers of digital space! – 2nd call for papers now out!



The Cyber Network Conference (#CNC17) is taking place on 11-12 September 2017 at the College of Law & Criminology, Singleton Campus, Swansea University.



We bring you great speakers, fantastic discussion panels, an opportunity to share your own research AND a science-themed comedy night hosted by the creator of Pythagoras’ Trousers, Rhys Phillips.

- Security & Privacy Panel: Dr Patrick Bishop (Swansea Law); Esko Reinikainen (The Satori Lab); Mark Weinstein (CEO of MeWe);

- Health & Social Care keynote: Prof. John Williams (Swansea Medicine);

- Services & Goods keynote: Dr. Pedro Telles (Swansea Law);

- Participation & Space Panel: Dr. Huw C. Davies (Oxford Internet Institute); Peter Anderson (VocalEyes).

This event is organised by a team of PhD/early career researchers who hope to create a strong collegiate network of people researching the cyber-sphere in years to come. We hope to bring together researchers across social, legal, health and computer sciences. It is FREE for presenters and there is a limited budget to cover UK travel expenses for PhD students traveling to the event.



This event is funded by an Inter and Cross-disciplinary Small Grant from the ESRC Wales DTP. Please share the event information colleagues as widely as possible.



Abstract Submission



Thank you to all who have already submitted an abstract. If you are interested in participating, the second call for papers is now out, please fill in the Expression of Interest Form by the 30th of June 2017. Feel free to submit everything including complete pieces of work, work in progress or ideas still forming.

The organising team invites contributions across four themes:

1. Security & Privacy: the impact of new technologies on security and privacy for governments, businesses and individuals;

2. Health & Social Care: how technology impacts on health and social care now and in the future;

3. Services & Goods: the role of technology to facilitate access to, and provision of, services and goods; and,

4. Participation & Space: digital technologies and their impact on social inclusion, democracy and attachment to physical places.



Participants will have the opportunity to share their research with others through a variety of mediums. These include:

- Presenting your research (or brainstorm a research idea) during one of the breakout sessions (15-20 minutes);

- Exhibiting a research poster as part of the poster competition; and,

- Presenting a 3 minute ‘pecha-kucha’ style presentation and entering the respective competition at the Comedy Research Open Mic.



*Presenters do not pay the conference fee.

Travel Expenses

A limited budget is available to cover travel costs of PhD student presenters travelling within the UK to the event. Requests for travel reimbursement will be assessed on a case-by-case basis and should be made and justified on the expression of interest form.



Accommodation

Accommodation is not included and should be arranged by participants.
