Applications are invited for a full-time (35 hours per week), open-ended Teaching and Research pathway Lectureship in German Studies within the Cardiff School of Modern Languages. You will pursue excellence in research, teaching, innovation and engagement, delivering high-quality language and non-language teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, contributing to the School's research profile through commitment to publishing high-quality research outputs. You will also inspire others to do the same.

Salary: £40,523 - £46,924 per annum (Grade 7)

Essential Criteria

Qualifications and Education

  1.  Postgraduate degree at PhD level in a related subject area or relevant industrial experience, along with a Postgraduate Certificate in University Teaching and Learning or equivalent qualification or experience

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  1.  Native, or near-native proficiency in German and English language
  2.  An established track record of expertise and portfolio of research and/or relevant industrial experience in any area of German Studies. Applications are particularly welcome from candidates researching in the following fields: translation and adaptation / cultural studies, including film / language pedagogy
  3.  Significant teaching experience at a high level of quality at undergraduate/ postgraduate level.
  4.  Growing national reputation and profile within academic field, along with proven record of publications in high-impact national journals
  5.  Evidence of the potential to obtain competitive research funding along with strong and credible forward plans for success in research funding awards
  6.  Ability to contribute to, and lead, the development and delivery of modules across the German Studies programme and beyond within the school

Pastoral, Communication and Team Working

  1.  Proven ability in clear and effective communication
  2.  Evidence of a strong track-record of collaborative teamwork with academic and administrative staff colleagues
  3.  The ability to provide appropriate pastoral support to students, appreciate the needs of individual students and their circumstances, and to act as a personal tutor.

Desirable Criteria

1. The ability to contribute to the school’s translation programme for German to English translation
2. Evidence of collaborations with industry
3. Proven ability to work without close supervision
4. Proven ability to adapt to the changing requirements of the Higher Education community
5. Evidence of ability to participate in and develop both internal and external networks and utilise them to enhance the teaching and research activities of the School
